Old centre of Javea
The old centre of Javea has retained its medieval appearance to this day, a unique network of narrow streets with southern-looking white facades and floral decorations, beautiful stone arches that lead to surprising corners, gothic windows, beautiful ironwork in the balconies and large wooden front doors. The historic centre of Javea is located 1km from the beach and has remained virtually unchanged over the years. You ca still see remnants of piracy and the raisin past of the city can also be recognised. The location of the centre helped a lot with that. Most tourists stay close to the coast and do not often visit the centre. This has kept it authentic, even in the modern age.
All this makes strolling throughout the streets of Javea a real pleasure. It is a journey throughout a time where you can enjoy beautiful details. The atmosphere in the town is very pleasant, especially in the evening, with restaurant tables in the narrow alleys and on the squares surrounded by the historic setting of Javea. There are several traditional tapas bars and shops throughout the city.
Port of Javea
The area around port of Javea is known as Duanes de la Mar. It is a lively part of Javea with the coming and going of fishing boats. Of course there is also a fish market at Long that is definitely worth a visit. In addition of a fishing port there is also a marina in Duanes de la Mar. In the marina you can enjoy water sport, such as fishing, diving or boat rental. There is a boulevard with the pebble beach around the port of Javea. There are many fishermen's houses in the area, but also the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Loreto. This striking building is an example of modern architecture that enthusiasts can appreciate. Dunes de la Mar is the busiest spot in Javea all year round. There is always activity, thanks to the fishing boats that come ashore every morning to deliver their fish.
